Rabbi Lisa Vinikoor, spiritual leader of Beth Israel Congregation in Bath and Hillel rabbi at Bowdoin College, will talk about Sanctuary in the Jewish Tradition. Rabbi Vinikoor came to the rabbinate after a fourteen career as a teacher and social justice organizer in Boston and Lawrence, MA.
A native of Vermont, she was educated at Smith College, the University of Massachusetts, Boston, and Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in New York City. Her social justice work, including organizing thousands of volunteers to fight for and win successful passage of the 2006 Massachusetts Healthcare Reform law, inspired her to seek a career as a rabbi, where she aims to teach and act for social justice from a Jewish lens.
When she’s not at Beth Israel or Bowdoin, you can find her jogging, riding her bike, or trying to catch a glimpse of moose or two in Baxter State Park. Rabbi Vinikoor lives in Bath with her wife and daughter.
