There is a famous line in the Leonard Cohen song Anthem – “Forget your perfect offering, there is a crack in everything. That’s how the light gets in.” It’s a sentiment urging us towards the acceptance of flaws, but I wonder sometimes about that light, and the direction it flows. Might the cracks we bear be how our light shines forth, too? Can human frailties – the things that mark us as different, or cause us pain — actually be our strength and source of beauty?
